Junior Profiles

 Ben Spickard

The Spickard Family joined the Country Club of Roswell in 1993 and young Ben started playing golf at the ripe old age of five.  His skills developed quickly and he was named the Junior Program’s “Sweet Swinger” at age seven.  Ben credits his mother, Betsy and his father, Brian as the greatest influence as a Junior Golfer.  He credits his “Coach”, Jackie Cannizzo, with his development as a player.  “She was always the one I could turn to for advice about golf or life.”  Ben’s junior golf career included a victory in the American Junior Golf Association’s Ringold Classic and a first place finish in the Junior Rice Planters.  He was a four time MVP of his Centennial High School Golf Team where he was the 2003 Region Champion in his senior year.  He accepted a golf scholarship to his beloved University of Tennessee in 2004 where he helped his team to a SEC Championship in 2007.  He graduated from Tennessee in 2008 with a degree in Sports Management and is currently employed as an Assistant Golf Professional at Sea Island Golf Club in St. Simons, Georgia.  He would eventually like to own and operate his own instruction facility as a PGA Member.   According to Ben, while he won three Country Club of Roswell Men’s Club Championships, his most memorable moment was winning the CCR Junior Club Championship.   He says his proudest moment was when he was invited back to work with the Junior Program as a volunteer and saw how far the program had come.  Ben offers the following advice to Junior Golfers, “Remember to have fun while chasing your goals.”

Doug Farrell

The Farrell family joined Country Club of Roswell in 1995 and Doug and his brother Patrick enrolled in the Junior Golf Program.  Doug worked on his game with Jackie Cannizzo and competed in the Atlanta Junior Golf Association events around town.  He lettered for three years on the Centennial High School Golf team and graduated in 2003 with a 4.0 GPA.  He also worked in our outside operations department and on the Golf Shop Staff after school and on the weekends.  In Doug's own words,  " I grew up always wanting a to have a career in golf. At first I was like any young junior golfer, I wanted to be Tiger Woods and be on the PGA Tour. Then reality hit, I don't hit it as far, as straight, as consistently, or putt as well as the guys on the PGA Tour."  Doug decided to attend the Professional Golf Management Program at Mississippi State University to pursue his career in golf.  He graduated in 2007 with two degrees, one in Marketing with an emphasis on Professional Golf Management and one in Finance. He also minored in Economics with an overall GPA of 3.9.  While at Mississippi State, Doug did his co-op work at facilities such as Cherry Hills Country Club in Denver, The Alotian Club in Little Rock and Olympia Fields in the Chicago area.  Upon graduation he joined the staff at Olympia Fields where he is currently employed as the Associate Head Golf Professional.  He was elected to membership in the Professional Golfers Association of America in 2008. Doug offers the following advise to junior golfers, "If you want to finish first, you need to out work the person who will finish second."
