The non residents were known as “The World” team and competed against the residents in a Ryder Cup style event that was the brainchild of MGA Co-Chairman Bill Thieriot. Jimmy Nall captained his Willow Springs squad to a 16-10 win over Ray Ingersoll’s World Team. Willow Springs jumped out to a early 11-1 lead only to see the lead dwindle to 11.5 to 8.5 before pulling away for the victory. Nall led the celebration on the golf deck by sipping brandy out of CCR’s version of the Ryder Cup. While Nall credited this teammates for their brilliant play he saved much of the credit for himself saying, “I spent all night Friday night at the bar sending my players home and buying drinks for the World team.” The World Team is already talking about a rematch this year after such a demoralizing defeat.
